52 for 52 - Week 10
Week 10
This week, I spent much more time making phone calls. I attempted to call CQ on both 146.520 and 446.000 numerous times, but I haven't had much luck. I will continue to call and see if I can't find a way to catch someone. I have encountered someone on YouTube doing a challenge they called "ten on five two", where they call CQ for around 10 minutes on 146.52, no logs, no awards, just getting active. I want to try to do something similar around me. I think if I call around the same time, I should be able to catch someone, maybe an "alive at five" or something like that. Try to catch people heading home after work.
Interesting or Notable Contacts
I made quite a few phone contacts this week during my POTA activation; in fact, it might be the most I have made in a POTA activation. My "general" FT8 contacts were mostly US in the usual suspect states, with a handful in Canada and one in Spain. So nothing really stood out this week.
POTA Activations
I made a quick solo trip to Ocean Lake State Wildlife Area (US-6179). I arrived just after UTC rollover.
I saw a couple of ducks and a carp that was jumping out of the water near the shore. On my way into the parking spot, there were a couple of pheasants and a few ducks that swam away once I got out of my vehicle. It was a really nice day, and I had enough time after the UTC rollover to get the activation done before I lost all light.
